Production has begun on the epic 5th Anniversary Ale. This is only my 2nd homemade recipe and it should prove to be memorable. The recipe is very loosely based on a dunkelweizen, though I have added a healthy dose of chocolate malt and am considering the addition of dark chocolate to the secondary. I used 1oz. Saaz hops at 60 minutes for bittering. I nearly had to sell my soul to talk the folks at
Jim's Homebrew in Spokane into letting me buy this 1oz. of Saaz hops and I am incredibly grateful. If you're in Spokane, I suggest you check them out.
This is not a big beer such as my last few have been and weighs in at an original gravity of 1.051. Fermentation actively began overnight and I've had to install a blowoff tube to keep up with it, as shown in the image below.
