The results are in for this year's National Homebrew Compeition and once again, Two Thumbs did not make it past the first round. In fact, I had my worst showing yet and missed the Bronze certificate by a mere 1/2 point. The beer I entered was my Trifecta Porter which is essentially my chocolate porter but with 1/2 lb of roasted barley instead of a 1/8 lb. This whopper weighed in at about 8% ABV, so I entered it in the "Baltic Porter" category. This would be my downfall.
Both of the judges scoring sheets suggested that I should "Make it bigger". They felt that the beer was not strong enough for a Baltic porter and should probably have been entered as a "Robust Porter".
No harm, no foul, I say. Next year they better be watching out for an epic "Robust porter"!
No matter what the judges think, I want to try some - how bout sending a batch to me and Ryan here in Florida?!
