Ashes to ashes, beer to drain

Well, I realize it's been a while since last we chatted, but brewing weather has been hard to come by in these parts. Cooler weather, however, is on the horizon and it's got me itchin' to brew another batch. I promised my assistant brewer that I wouldn't be brewing the next batch until September, but I've got to keep myself in the spirit for the time being. That said, I've been taking care of the miscellaneous brewing tasks that needed done around here.

Task Number 1: Bottle the strawberry wine. ✓

Notes: The smell and color were very promising. The taste was sweet at the start and slightly tart at the finish.

Task Number 2: Inventory failed attempts at beer and dispose. ✓

Notes: 1 22oz Doppelbock (never came into its own), 4 22oz+ Bastard Wee Heavy (Wee disgusting), and 1 22oz Belgian Blonde (circa 2007).

Sometimes you just make a beer that ain't worth a damn and I'm not above cutting my losses. Believe me, going down the drain was the best thing that ever happened to these beers. I did give them one last attempt to redeem themselves, however.

And then taps played...

And last, but most fun...

Task Number 3: Revamp Trifecta porter recipe for September brewing. ✓

Note: Converted my first homemade all-grain recipe into a partial mash so I could handle all the grain with my current setup. Felt kind of bad doing that, but it needed to be done.

Stay tuned for new brews from TTBC in early September!
